cross the road, molina
Art by Andrew Dickerson
wolf headed conjurour in the cross roads
green eyes and alien chant brought the lightning down
set my pulse to the short waves pulse
set my pulse to the great lakes pulse
to wreath the moon in a head dress of neon flames
must take concentration from that heavy old bird
blue chicago moon swings like a blade above the midwest’s heart
swings like a blade (x2)
swing that blade above us(x2)
show us how close it can get
show us close you can get
show us how fast we can lose it how bad we’re out numbered
set my pulse an electric pulse
set my pulse to the blues
them black sad eyes (x2)
if i never see them again tell them goodbye
and i set my pulse to an electric pulse
i set my pulse to the blues
i send my pulse to the vixen’s hearts
i concentrate like that heavy old bird
green eyes and alien chant brought the lightning down
set my pulse to the short waves pulse
set my pulse to the great lakes pulse
to wreath the moon in a head dress of neon flames
must take concentration from that heavy old bird

didn't it rain
Art by Emily Callen & Andrew Dickerson
no matter how dark the storm gets overhead
they say someone’s watching from the calm at the edge
what about us when we’re down here in it
we gotta watch our own backs
but if you do see that golden light
that it shines in its fiery eye
go on and catch it while you can
go on and catch it if you can
let it course through you
and let it burn through you
if it’s the light of truth (x2)
if they think you got it they’re going to beat it out of you
with work and debt whatever all else there is
you got to watch your own back
try to see the light of goodness burning down the track
through the blinding rain through the swaying wires
if i see you struggle i will not turn my back
i’ve seen a good man and a bad man down the same path
i’ve seen the light of truth keeping out of it and told them to watch their own backs
if i see you struggle and givin all that you got
i see you work all night burning your light to the last of its dim watts
i’m gonna help you how i can, if you see me struggle all night
and give me a hand cause i’m in need i’ll call you friend indeed
but i’m going to watch my own back
didn’t it rain
they say someone’s watching from the calm at the edge
what about us when we’re down here in it

Don't It look like rain
Art by Andrew Dickerson
The dark outside the world
I think it looks like rain
Don’t it look like rain (x2)
I wait for nothing now to change
I don’t think nothing now is gonna change
The wolf outside my door don’t need
Anymore of my blood
Of my bood
She don’t wait for nothing
nothing anymore
She’s watching for nothing anymore
Moon above my light
Starts fading out (x3)
I live for nothing anymore (x2)
I live for nothing
I think it looks like rain
Don’t it look like rain (x2)
I wait for nothing now to change
I don’t think nothing now is gonna change
The wolf outside my door don’t need
Anymore of my blood
Of my bood
She don’t wait for nothing
nothing anymore
She’s watching for nothing anymore
Moon above my light
Starts fading out (x3)
I live for nothing anymore (x2)
I live for nothing
Everything should try again
Art by Katie Green
You don’t forgive the silence for not speaking up
No matter how hard we’re trying it’s not hard enough
You rise before the lightning to meet it by yourself
You’ve been tired and a little sick
You’ve been trying to work with it
You drew your grave on every single map
You don’t plan on staying long
You plan on burning it
No matter how wrong it went
You don’t have much more room to forget
You don’t have much more room to forget
You don’t forgive even the lightning for leaving you
But everything should try again, even you
You followed the train through every prairie dawn
Said I’d like to see Ohio one more time before it’s gone
You had your hands up high in a prayer to crush your heart
And every single heart was that eight point start
Ever been tired
Ever been a little sick
Ever tried working through it.
No matter how hard we’re trying it’s not hard enough
You rise before the lightning to meet it by yourself
You’ve been tired and a little sick
You’ve been trying to work with it
You drew your grave on every single map
You don’t plan on staying long

I turned your life so upside down
I don't know how you stayed or why
Looking always over my shoulder
Exactly what I wanted to find was already mine
Josephine, Josephine
But I saw the horizon
And I had to know where it all ends
I lived so long with the shadows
Lord, I became one of them
Oh, what a fool I've been
Josephine, Josephine
Now I take the hand I took for granted and set it free
Oh, what a fool I've been
Josephine, Josephine
Some folks see the horizon
And never need to know how it all ends
Leave the shadows behind
Don't go chasin' after 'em
You locked the door and put them old records on
I hear you cryin' along
Oh, what a fool I've been
No more will the final word be the tears in your eyes
Oh how I try, oh how I try
Oh Josephine, you are free
Oh Josephine, Josephine
I don't know how you stayed or why
Looking always over my shoulder
Exactly what I wanted to find was already mine
Josephine, Josephine
But I saw the horizon
And I had to know where it all ends
I lived so long with the shadows

Tea for two stars falling from the memphis sky
Tea for two stars falling from the memphis sky
I know the night bird called you now
Everything is fine
I know it's soon to be fading out
But oh, didn't we shine
Didn't we shine
Some people say that the memphis blues ain't bad
Some people say that the memphis blues ain't bad
Put your little hand in mine darling
I know you're fading fast
It weren't the memphis blues you had
But baby you still shine
Goodbye my love, goodbye my love, goodbye
Turn your lamp down low my love, goodbye
I hear the whistle singing now to the lonesome pine
I know that we faded out
But oh, didn't we shine
Didn't we shine
Tea for two stars falling from the memphis sky
I know the night bird called you now
Everything is fine
I know it's soon to be fading out
But oh, didn't we shine
Didn't we shine
Some people say that the memphis blues ain't bad
Some people say that the memphis blues ain't bad
Put your little hand in mine darling
I know you're fading fast
It weren't the memphis blues you had
But baby you still shine
Goodbye my love, goodbye my love, goodbye
Turn your lamp down low my love, goodbye
I hear the whistle singing now to the lonesome pine
I know that we faded out
But oh, didn't we shine
Didn't we shine
Such Pretty Eyes For A Snake
Art by Andrew Dickerson
i'm still looking for them eyes
to meet me at the end of the line
is it going to be the ones
the whole depth of the winter black
is it going to be the ones
the whole depth of the ocean blue
now if i came upstairs with you
i bet i'll be just in time
to be part of something
i'll regret my whole life
it wouldn't be the first time
that i made a mistake in my life
in fact i learned how
to make a living
out of making mistakes
besides you got such pretty eyes
for a snake
i'm still looking for them eyes
to meet me at the end of the line
is it going to be the ones
the whole depth of the winter black
is it going to be the ones
the whole depth of the ocean blue

talk to me devil, again
Art by Andrew Dickerson
Roll the moon over my heart
Roll my heart out with the tide
I talked to the wolf in the mountain
And I talked to the mule in the mine
Devil unwind what’s empty
Devil unwind my heart
Devil make the two ends meet
Devil when I fall
Talk to me devil, again (x3)
Baby I still have time
Smell the lightning burning the starry sky
Rhododendron now under the moon
All hearts still in the tide
Devil if I fall hold out no water to me
Devil when I fall, hold out no hand
Devil unwind what’s empty
Devil unbind my heart
Devil make the two ends meet
Devil if I fall apart
Talk to me devil, again (x3)
Baby I still have time
Roll my heart out with the tide
I talked to the wolf in the mountain
And I talked to the mule in the mine
Devil unwind what’s empty
Devil unwind my heart

got my window open in the southern cross hotel
it's been my longest night i can tell
by the way i'm not surprised
to see the desert cover over paradise
now count every rhododendron in this cool mountain light
i made more mistakes than that just tonight
so all of you folks in heaven not too busy ringing the bell
some of us down here ain't doing very well
some of us with our windows open in the southern cross motel
still waitin
still waitin
for you to sing that song again
the one you were singin at the very fall of man
it ain't hallelujah but it might as well have been
sing it brother one more time
sing it brother one more time
sing it sister one more time
sing it sister one more time
once for everybody who got left behind
whip-poor-will
oh whip-poor-will
whip-poor-will
