A Jason Molina Tribute
I discovered Jason Molina's music way too late . . . about a year before he died. I admit I wasn't hooked right away, but I kept coming back to his songs again and again. Sometime in early March of 2013 something clicked and I found myself listening to nothing but his music. I started searching out everything he had ever done and I loved all of it. Other music just didn't measure up anymore. I scoured the internet for any information I could find on Jason Molina and read that he was living in Indianapolis. I happen to live 30 minutes from Indianapolis. I read that Jason was not doing well, but I hoped he would recover for his own well-being and for more selfish reasons. I hoped for new music. But even more, I hoped that one day I would get to see him live, or perhaps even get to meet him. I started to develop an idea for a fan page.
Every night before I fell asleep, I would put on my headphones and discover more of his music and search out more information. I started creating art based on his music and I began to develop the fan page that you see here now. One night I was listening to the music, when I checked the wikipedia page and there I saw something that made my heart sink . . . a date of death. I hoped it was a mistake or just a prank. But, I knew it probably wasn't. I searched on Google and found more updates, all of them only a few hours old stating that Jason Molina had died over the weekend. I took off my headphones, I woke up my wife, and I said "He died . . . That singer I like . . . He died."
So, I knew I would never get to see Jason Molina live or get to meet him, but I could still make my fan page. So here you have it, a work in progress. Right now, I plan on creating art inspired by his songs and posting them along side the lyrics. But, that plan could change into something totally different. Like I said it's a work in progress. The site is mostly for me, but perhaps others will enjoy it too. Thanks for visiting and please contact me if you have questions or would like to contribute.
--The name of the site, Ghosts of Molina, was the first name I thought of and I started the site before Jason died. It just sounded right and I felt like he would have liked it. I hope so.-- Andrew Dickerson
